Sundance Institute Honors Boots Riley

Featuring the LA Debut Screening of Sorry to Bother You and Afterparty
Yesterday evening, Sundance Institute hosted Sundance Institute at Sundown at The Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles. During the event, Sundance Institute presented filmmaker Boots Riley with the Institute’s Vanguard Award. Rosario Dawson presented Riley with the Award. The evening was presented by Acura with additional support from media sponsor, Variety.
Following the presentation, attendees enjoyed a screening of Sorry to Bother You and an after party. Proceeds from the event benefit the nonprofit Institute’s year-round programs for independent film and theatre artists.
Sorry to Bother You, which had its world premiere in the U.S. Dramatic Competition category at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, is a genre-defying work, taking place in a modern day alternate reality version of Oakland, CA where telemarketer Cassius Green discovers a magical key to professional success, propelling him into a macabre new universe.
