NIK WALLENDA BECOMES THE FIRST PERSON TO WALK A HIGHWIRE OVER AN ACTIVE VOLCANO ON “VOLCANO LIVE! WITH NIK WALLENDA”
Never-Before-Seen Erendira Wallenda Aerial Performance Stuns
1,800-feet Above Glowing Lava
Tonight, the world witnessed Nik Wallenda make history on “Volcano Live! with Nik Wallenda” as the daredevil successfully completed an 1,800-foot highwire walk over the active Masaya Volcano in Nicaragua, becoming the first person to ever attempt and accomplish such a feat. His wife, Erendira, opened the show with her most daring aerial performance to date above the volcano’s glowing lava lake. The suspense-filled global event, hosted by “The Bachelor’s” Chris Harrison and ESPN’s Sage Steele, was broadcast live on ABC and produced by dick clark productions. National Geographic will re-air the special on March 5, 2020 at 9pmET/PT.
Highlights from the show include:
- Erendira’s performance with the lyra over the center of the volcano was a same-day change in production due to high winds and stronger than expected toxic gases affecting flight conditions for the previously planned helicopter performance. The live performance was not something she had previously rehearsed. Erendira wore a gas mask for the performance, except when she hung by her teeth for the finale.
- Nik and Erendira’s entire family was present for the event including Nik’s father, mother, sister and their three children; all of whom participated in family prayer prior to Nik’s walk.
- Nik’s never-before attempted walk began at 8:20pmET and finished at 8:51pmET for a total of 31 minutes. Nik noted the winds were more than expected at multiple points in the walk and he was forced to stop and brace himself before continuing.
