The track sets the stage for more music from John-Robert to come as he gears up to release his debut project via Ricky Reed’s Nice Life Recording Company. Additionally, John-Robert has confirmed a select run of U.S. tour dates, which include a showcase at New York’s Rockwood Music Hall as well as a performance at Pharrell’s Something In The Water. See below for a complete list of tour dates.
John-Robert was born and raised in the small town of Edinburg, Virginia and started performing at local open mics at age nine. He is the oldest of four kids raised by a pharmacist mother and a stay-at-home father. Growing up, his dad would take John-Robert and his siblings on random drives getting lost on purpose so they could explore the land. This was where John-Robert found his voice: in a tan minivan on a back road, howling along to Styx. Naturally, piano lessons and choir followed. Then came cafés, county fairs and national anthems. Then on his 12th birthday, John-Robert got what he wanted most in the world: a guitar.
As a teen, John-Robert could be seen carrying around his acoustic axe while covering Coldplay, the Kooks and countless others to a growing YouTube audience. His favorite part of the day was going home so he could teach himself fingerpicking, or try to hit a higher note than he did the day before. Once he got a looping pedal the covers became more ambitious: Chance the Rapper, Alt-J, Hippo Campus. He’d find himself arranging full songs on the spot, tracking his voice until he had a chorus and building his own songs in GarageBand and Logic. His knack for writing vivid stories enabled him to write songs about the intricacies of friendship and love. John-Robert graduated high school a year early and was awarded with a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. Music school was calling, but making music sounded like more fun.
