Slow down and enjoy a long look at the majestic four-panel vista “Echo Park Lake no. 1-4” (1982) by artist Carlos Almaraz. This conversation will dedicate an hour to this monumental work, a tour de force reminiscent of Claude Monet’s celebrated Parisian views and lily pond paintings. Born in Mexico City but spending much of his life in Southern California, Carlos Almaraz co-founded the Chicano artist collective Los Four.
Join museum educator Holly Gillette to explore these extraordinary paintings brought together for the first time since 1987 in “Playing with Fire: Paintings by Carlos Almaraz.”
