I hate Valentine’s Day so much that I wrote a book called “Stories for People Who Hate Love” and convinced Desert Nights to let me throw a party to celebrate it. Come grab a book, a drink, a lobotomy and watch me shake like a toothache as I read to you what is basically my bad date diary. (Warning: I like cusswords and oversharing).
I know book readings sound boring but I promise it won’t be boring.
Special guests include:
Noah Cicero who I met once for 30 seconds in Seattle. His writing is sort of like Bukowski if Bukowski were an occasionally sad Buddhist living in Vegas. He will be reading from one of his (NINE) books… “Nature Documentary” which came out this month and then he’s going to ask the audience why we both are always single.
Music by KaiL Baxley who has the voice of a 70 yr old blues singer from 70 yrs ago, the kind that grew up picking cotton and grew old drinking whiskey…and though it’s totally up to him what he performs (despite my incessant suggestions to cover that really sad Leonard Cohen song or maybe “Boots of Spanish Leather” or I don’t know, that Death Cab song “I will follow you in to the dark” but he’s prob too cool to do that last one) so I guess we will all be surprised by what he plays but in a find $20 in an old coat pocket kind of way.
AND Valida is gonna perform a love song from the 80s that I’ve never heard of but she swears I probably have heard of (probably with Justine who I can’t tag but she has an insanely beautiful voice and very stylish bangs…I may have suggested she play the song “Landslide” too, not sure if she remembers but I’m just sayin’) and of course, Valida will DJ cause that’s Valida’s whole thing. Well, that and bunnies/cats/cute animals and veganism and being fucking amazing. (see what I said about cusswords?)
I’m still feeling out someone to do an angry Fiona Apple cover for me. Stay tuned.
See you there?
