35th annual Just for Laughs Awards with Trevor Noah, Jim Carrey, Ali Wong, Ones To Watch!! And MORE

Yesterday was a marquee event at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal with the 35th annual Just for Laughs Awards taking place. The event honored Trevor Noah as Comedy Person of the Year who gave an appreciative nod to fellow honoree, Jim Carrey, this year’s recipient of the Generation Award, for his candidness about the issue of depression within the comedy industry. Carrey was presented the night’s biggest award by Judd Apatow who earned laughs for recalling the first time he met the comedy legend, just a nervous and star struck fresh-faced comic first on the scene, and Carrey called him a “narc.”

Trevor Noah, South Africa’s most famous comic, best known for his role as host on The Daily Show, performed two sold out shows at Maison Symphonique this evening, showing us all yet again why he is one of today’s biggest names in comedy.

Monument National’s Ludger Duvernay Theatre was roaring with laughter for tonight’s Homegrown Comics. The show, in it’s 19th edition, was hosted by Mark Critch and featured 10 up and comers and special guest K. Trevor Wilson. We’re pretty certain a few more comedy superstars were born this evening!

This year’s presentation of the greatly anticipated Variety Top 10 Comics to Watch in a sold out Ludger Duvernay theater had ten top performers including comics, sketch artists and online content creators performing together for one night only. We feel sorry for anyone who missed this once-in-a-lifetime event, but something tells us this isn’t the last time these comedic rising stars will be performing on a big stage!
